My Entrepreneurial Journey So Far
One of the biggest draws to becoming an entrepreneur is creating true freedom in your life. The idea of being in control of your schedule, income and time is what drives so many of us to pursue mind-blowing initiatives.
“Don’t fall into the trap of those trying to test you. You get challenged the most when you’re working on yourself and focused on your goals. Don’t let the criticism and judgement of others stop you from keeping your vision alive. Believe in yourself and mind your own business.’’
That said, starting a business is hard and many businesses fail to get off the ground. While many are affected by profitability issues for years. Starting and growing a business has taught me many incredible and invaluable lessons.
I have been an entrepreneur for the past 3 years and attempting to live my dream. This, however, has been and continues to be a challenge albeit liberating on many levels. Being able to make my own decisions and having the responsibility to shape my future is quite rewarding. Juggling between my studies, work commitments, networking and developing new initiatives is what drives me to succeed.
Setting up my newest venture “Mentors Hub’’, (which is a youth-based social enterprise working directly with schools, colleges, universities and NEETS Across London), has inspired me to pursue my goals.
The aim is to connect talented young people from diverse backgrounds with those engaged in different industries.
Part of the process is the training of mentors to help with the delivery and building of meaningful relationships that have a real impact on the young person’s life.
What I’ve learnt from my last venture “ One Delivery ‘’ (has taught me these three valuable lessons.

It’s much harder than you could have imagined.
You think you know how hard it’s going to be and then you start a business and realise you really didn’t have a clue what you were getting into.
It constantly pushes you to dig deeper and deal with failure along the way, but it helps you grow in other areas of your life. Dealing with the struggle teaches you how to get through the harder things you’ll face in life. It teaches you to focus on why you started your business and figure out a way to make things work.
Most people in your life won’t understand
As an entrepreneur, I have reached a point of giving up trying to explain my vision to family and friends but they just won’t get it. We ’re wired to seek security and career provides security in most people’s minds. Moreover, even with the best business ideas, you’ll experience resistance and confusion from those who you thought would understand. Actions speak louder than words, therefore I’ll prove I know what I’m doing with the actions I take.
Fearing failure
At times you may have a great product and team but fail to execute. Often, it is caused by a fear of failure. As an entrepreneur, you should never try to rush a decision but there are times when you just need to go with your gut. When it’s one of those times, make the decision, live with the consequences and move on. Failure is just part of the road to success. Success is not the final destination but the journey.
